Foundation Overview

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 and currently has 193 member states. The United Nations and its work are guided by the goals and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

International Members

The number of member states of the United Nations has increased from 51 in 1945 to 193 now. All member states of the United Nations are members of the General Assembly. Countries applying to join the United Nations must first be recommended by the Security Council and then decided by the General Assembly in order to obtain membership in the United Nations.

The individual in question has served as the former Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, the former Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning of UNESCO, the Vice-Chair of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG), the Director of the Information Technology for Development Programme at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), an advisor to the President of Nigeria, and is a member and co-founder of the African Leaders Forum.

Mehri Madarshahi

United Nations Senior Economic Advisor.

Advisor to the International Centre for Creativity and Sustainable Development under UNESCO, and Special Senior Fellow at CCG. She has previously served as the European correspondent for Maxim News and United Nations Diplomatic News, among other newspapers, and was elected as a supervisor for the AMFIE Credit Union Bank in Luxembourg. She has been invited as a visiting professor by several universities, including South China University of Technology, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Jinan University. She holds the position of Vice Chairman at the Asia-Pacific Exchange and Cooperation Foundation, serves on the International Advisory Board of the Guiyang Eco Forum, and is a council member of the International Centre for Creativity and Sustainable Development (ICCSD) under UNESCO.
